Abstract

Adolescent mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues, are increasingly prevalent in contemporary society. In understanding these challenges, psychological factors such as locus of control and emotional intelligence play a significant role in shaping mental health outcomes. This paper explores the relationship between these constructs and adolescent well-being, emphasizing their influence on coping strategies, emotional regulation, resilience, and overall mental health. Locus of control, which refers to an individual’s perception of control over life events, and emotional intelligence, the ability to understand and manage emotions, are crucial in determining how adolescents navigate stress and adversity. Through a review of major psychological theories, including Rotter’s Locus of Control theory andGoleman’s Emotional Intelligence theory, the paper illustrates how these factors interact to impact adolescents' mental health outcomes. The integration of these constructs is discussed, highlighting the positive effects of developing both a high internal locus of control and strong emotional intelligence. The paper concludes with practical recommendations for mental health interventions and educational programs aimed at enhancing adolescent mental health through training in emotional intelligence and locus of control.
